6th November, 2000 Celebrating our love affair with the car Viewed on a map, it may seem an isolated spot, but the Western Australian capital city of Perth manages more than its fair share of outstanding motoring events. They take many and varied forms, from Rally Australia to the Auto Expo, and one of the finest is the annual display of classic and exotic cars known as the Celebration of the Motorcar. To be held on Sunday, November 12th, this years Celebration will feature 180 of the most beautiful cars ever made, many of which are only displayed at this event. Rolls-Royce, Ferrari, Jaguar, Porsche, Bentley, Maserati, Cadillac, Corvette, Mercedes-Benz, Austin Healey, BMW, De Tomaso, Aston Martin, TVR, Audi, etc, etc, etc Special cars this year include a magnificent and very rare 1973 Iso Grifo IR8 which has just finished a lengthy restoration, a 1937 Cord Supercharged Custom Berline sold new to Bing Crosby, one of only five in the world. And Perths first Bentley Azure convertible. The Feature Display this year commemorates 70 Years of Pininfarina, so attendees can look forward to a decidedly Italian flavour. The Celebration is at a new venue this year - the picturesque Claremont campus of Edith Cowan University - just a one block stroll from the river. A string quartet will provide lovely music, gourmet lunches and refreshments will be available all day, and there are plenty of shady places to sit back and take in the atmosphere. Celebration of the Motorcar is organised by Automotive Events Management in support of the Speech & Hearing Centre for Children, which is hosting a special preview Cocktail Party on the night of Saturday, November 11th. This promises to be an excellent evening in all respects; sponsored by Moet & Chandon, Louis Vuitton, Evans & Tate, Sauza Tequila and Viva Mexican Food Company, the cocktail party has a Latin theme and features LC Salsa band and Latin dancers. 6.30-9.30pm. Tickets are $50 and available from the Speech & Hearing Centre - call 08 9387 5444. Celebration of the Motorcar |
