ISO 14001 environmental standard secured

Enviro responsibility in everything Saab does
Saab Automobile is now certified in accordance with the ISO 14001 environmental management system, or SS-EN SO 14001:1996 as it is officially known.

At a ceremony in Trollhättan, Mr. Anders Jonsson of Det Norske Veritas certification body handed over the certificate to Mr. Peter Augustsson, president of Saab.

Certification applies not only to the production system - Saab is the world’s first carmaker to have gained environmental certification for its Technical Development Department.

Environmental impact is now one of the parameters that must be taken into account in selecting various design concepts, in just the same way as features such as quality, cost and performance.

Certification was secured in stages. The Saab gearbox factory in Gothenburg received its ISO 14001 certificate back in April, and the experience gained in this procedure was valuable in obtaining certification for other operations at Saab Automobile.

"The entire Saab organization has devoted tremendous effort and demonstrated keen involvement in the work of achieving ISO 14001 certification," said Mr. Augustsson.

"We now have an effective tool that enables us to continue our work on environmental matters in the same way as we have been working on quality – by steady improvements."
