Basketball gives way to corporate generosity

Mitsubishi Motors Australia Limited today announced that it is ending its association with the National Basketball League, to instead create a new cornerstone for its involvement in community programs.

The Mitsubishi Motors Foundation will be administered by a Board comprising representatives from both within and outside the Company, and will involve both employees and MMAL dealers.

"Although relatively low key, Mitsubishi Motors has for a long time been an enthusiastic and generous supporter of a range of causes and charity organisations," said Ian Ludgate, MMAL’s director of sales operations.

"The Foundation is a means of formalising and enhancing our commitment".

The Mitsubishi Motors Foundation initiative will mean that the ten-year association the Company has had with the National Basketball League as naming rights sponsor will cease at the end of the 2000/2001 season.

"The decision to end the Mitsubishi Challenge sponsorship with the NBL was not an easy one", said Mr Ludgate.

"Ten years is a long time, and to see the sport grow to a level where Australia has established such a well regarded level of local competition and international reputation has been great for everyone. However, we now feel it is time for a new direction and for Mitsubishi Motors to further support community projects".
