Soaring on an all-time sales high

CONTINUING to re-write its own records, Mazda Australia posted an all-time sales high last month to cap a record retail performance for the first six months of the year.

Year-to-date Mazda Australia has sold 26,066 vehicles, an improvement of 7972 sales or 44 per cent up on the same period last year.  Its year-to-date market share is 5.9 per cent, up from 4.4 per cent for the first six months of 2002.

Mazda sales have been so strong that its 2003 half yearly total is within 630 units of the company’s 1999 annual sales total, according to VFACTS figures.

Pushing through the 5000 sales barrier for the first time with record retail sales of 5353 in June (up 38.8 per cent on the same month last year) helped deliver the exceptional first half performance.

The June total (5.8 per cent market share) follows five record-breaking months for Mazda.

June's performance was 923 sales (20.8 per cent) ahead of the company’s previous best monthly sales total, which was posted in May.

Mazda Australia’s national sales manager, Doug Dickson said the sales performance demonstrated that the company’s range is attracting both existing owners and  many first-time buyers.

“Our sales, which will be further boosted by our rotary-powered RX-8 sports car next month, are on target to smash last year’s sales record of 39,152 for Mazda Australia and the all-time record for the Mazda brand of about 43,000 sales in 1974,” said Mr Dickson.

“With the help of the 323 Shades range, Mazda6, Mazda2, Tribute 4WD wagon and B Series we should go close to selling 50,000 vehicles this year”.

Last month the 323 had its best-ever sales performance since the car line first went on sale in 1978 (2065 sales), while the Mazda6 also had its strongest month with 1289.

Also proving popular were the Tribute (788 sales), posting its second best sales performance since it went on sale in February 2001 and the Mazda2 with 347 sales. The B Series (613 sales) recorded its best sales for two years.
