Ford's Transit is fast gaining a reputation
as Australias most versatile vehicle, with the Transit badge appearing on an
ever-increasing array of commercial vehicles, from six-berth camper vans to garbage
disposal trucks.
Ford has further reinforced the
Transits reputation for adaptability by developing a fleet of special purpose
vehicles in conjunction with leading after market manufacturers.
The specially-marked fleet, which includes refrigerated vans, garbage disposal trucks,
mobile garages, tip trucks, drop-side pick-ups and removalist trucks, is being circulated
throughout large fleet operators.
Ford Brand Manager, Light Trucks, Kevin Lillie, said the Transit allowed businesses to
personalise their fleet to cater to their unique transportation needs.
"In van form, Transit offers two wheelbases and three roof heights, as well as two
transmissions and three different engines. As a chassis-cab, it is adaptable to a variety
of special applications.
"The vehicle has been developed to provide transportation solutions for businesses
of any size," he said.
Introduced in August 1996, the Transit has established itself as a strong performer in
the van market, capturing almost 15 per cent of all van sales in the first ten months of
this year. The Transit chassis cab has also sold strongly, capturing almost 30 per cent of
the specialised 2.5 tonne to 3.5 tonne truck market.
Transit has been Britains top-selling van for 32 years.
