Laser `R' to offer a walk on the wild side

An aggressive and sporty new Ford Laser, designed to attract customers wanting to drive a "hot four", will reach Australian dealerships in January 2001.

Laser_R.jpg (27115 bytes)Laser R will provide a terrific preview to an expanded Laser line-up in 2001, with a 2.0 litre version due in showrooms from March.

The aggressive stance and sporty looks of Laser R are achieved by the addition of a full body kit, including a front air dam, rear bumper extension, high mounted spoiler, rocker mouldings, front mesh bumper inserts and R decals on both the rear and side rocker mouldings.

A large bore chrome tip exhaust and 15-inch alloy wheels complete the exterior sporty package, while a 6 stack CD player is added to Laser’s already comprehensive interior package.

Ford Australia’s manager for small cars and all-terrain wagons, Stephen Kruk, is sure the Laser R will add a great performance image to the entire Laser range and attract entirely new customers.

"Laser is a fantastic product that now has a sports image leader. Laser R is just the beginning as style and looks will be joined by genuine performance when the 2.0 litre arrives in March," said Mr Kruk.

"We’ve been asking our customers what they want from their Lasers and Laser R is it. It’s going to appeal to those customers who are currently spending upwards of $3,000 on after-market body kits and other ‘look-at-me’ accessories.

"We fully expect this limited edition to be a huge hit."

With a recommended retail price of $20,990, Laser R will be available in Atlantic Blue, Starlight Silver and Amazon Green on both 1.6 and 1.8 litre LXi hatches and across both manual and automatic transmissions.
