ED: The appearance of this hot-shoe Fairlane at motor
shows in the past few months was obviously no mere exercise in curiosity. So when do we
see the Sandfire ute reach production...With availability limited to just
106 units, each individually numbered, 'Fairlane-by-Tickford' is a swift yet subtle
interpretation tailored to the younger driver as well as the enthusiast big car buyer.
Fairlane by Tickford brings the
essence of the acclaimed EL Falcon GT to the larger Fairlane, executing an understated but
purposeful high performance luxury limousine.
Tickford has thoroughly re-engineered or revised relevant areas of the GT such as
drivetrain, steering, suspension, brakes and front seat pads to suit Fairlane' s different
character.
Fairlane by Tickford sports its own unique chrome mesh grille, "T" (for
Tickford) badging replacing Ghia, special interior trim, 17" wheels and individually
numbered plates in the engine bay (numbers 001 to 100 being customer cars).
Peak power of its Tickford-badged, 5-litre V8 engine leaps 18 percent from the standard
V8 to 195 kW at 5100 rpm and maximum torque is up to 405 Nm at 3100 rpm.
Engine highlights include GT40P heads, Cobra inlet manifolds from the 185kW XR8 and the
GT exhaust system lengthened to the longer wheelbase, exiting with a single large chrome
oval tailpipe. Its automatic transmission gains adaptive shifting, which adjusts to the
driver's individual driving style.
Special suspension trims the car lower and flatter than a Touring Suspension optioned
Fairlane and is a detailed adaptation from the GT to suit Fairlane's longer wheelbase
dynamics.
It is matched to unique six blade Speedline 17" alloy wheels from Roman Autotek
and Michelin Pilot 225/45 tyres.
Front brakes are bigger 330mm diameter ventilated discs with 4-pot 'Tickford' calipers.
Steering feel is optimised for sharper road feel through lower power assistance and
detailed adjustments.
Acceleration is enhanced by fitting the XR8's lower gear ratio 3.45:1 limited slip
differential in lieu of the standard 3.23.
Exterior colours are restricted to Regency or Navy, both with Cappuccino leather
interior with special darker tone highlights on the seat bolsters, console pad, dash top,
door trim sills, special 'ruched' leather door trim inserts and the grips on its
wood/leather Momo steering wheel.
In car entertainment is provided by a 250 watt, 9-speaker deck with Digital Sound
Processing plus a CD player with boot-mounted 6-disc changer.
Matching floor mats with Tickford 'wing' motifs, plus a security alarm complete the
'Fairlane by Tickford' unique feature list.
Standard Fairlane features apart from its sprawl room interior space include ABS
anti-lock brakes, front occupant airbags, automatic climate control, cruise control, trip
computer, driver seat height and thigh support adjustments, vertically adjustable lumbar
support for front occupants and 3-year Prestige Service Plan membership including 24-hour
roadside assistance.
Options available include power sunroof, power driver seat, plus tow packs.
