Audi has increased production capacity for its petite prestige A3
model by 20 percent to 590 units per day, by optimising the factory production process.Since
the European market launch of Audi's curvaceously compact in 1996, over 230,000 units have
been manufactured at the company's Ingolstadt production facility.
By increasing, the number of factory shifts by five and streamlining the production
process both within Audi plant and with outside suppliers, production capacity has been
increased by a healthy 20 percent.
This streamlining has reduced the delivery period in Germany to an average of three
months for the very popular Audi A3. In 1997 there were around 65.000 new Audi A3
registrations in Germany, or 14 percent of the total number of Audi vehicles sold.
Audi anticipates a similarly impressive number of A3 registrations in 1998.
In Australia, Audi sold 54 of its gorgeous pocket-sized prestige A3 vehicles throughout
April and total sales year-to-date number a handy 190 units.
"In Australia, customers can expect immediate delivery of their Audi A3 (depending
on colour choice and options), including our superb, turbocharged 1.8-litre manual with
sports suspension." said managing director of Audi in Australia, Mr Matthias Seidl.
Demonstrating its class-leading status, customers can even opt for colour-coordinated
interior fabrics when buying the Audi of their dreams, choosing any combination from the
eyecatching Cornflower Blue exterior with complementary blue interior to Audi's
high-impact Aztec Gold paint with a chic dark green interior. The outstanding array of
colour-coded interior fabrics are optional, but carry no extra cost with the Audi A3.
"As a bonus to our valued customers. Audi also has a 'duet' retail promotion
running on the A3 model until the end of May all A3's (except the 1.8T) are fitted with a
six-stack CD prayer and alloy wheels at noadditional cost." added Mr Seidl.
The A3 is Audi's representative in the premium of the compact class.
