Police in South Australia have taken delivery of a
brand new Suzuki 2.5L V6 Grand Vitara, to tow the departments Traffic Information
caravan throughout the state.
The 1.2 tonne caravan carries
literature and display materials on road safety issues such as speeding, drink driving and
safe driving practices.
"The South Australian Police department is delighted to continue its association
with Suzuki Australia," said the officer in charge of Traffic Safety and Promotions,
Sergeant David Hearn.
"We utilised a 2.0L V6 Vitara Estate to tow the van 34,000 kilometres to over 100
display sites last year.
"The Estate, with a towing capacity of 1200kg, was more than suitable, but the
additional capacity on the Grand Vitara (1850kg) will really come in handy if we upgrade
to a larger van.
"We often make trips into rural areas, and we ve found the additional power
of the Grand Vitaras 2.5 litre engine, its solid ladder-frame chassis and dual range
four wheel drive is a necessity to manoeuvre the caravan successfully."
Suzuki Australias South Australian Manager, Tony Saunders, is grateful for the
opportunity to align the company with road safety issues.
"Especially coming up to New Year and the January holiday season, Suzuki is more
than happy to donate a vehicle to improve road safety in this state," said Mr
Saunders.
"We applaud the efforts of those involved with the SA Police Traffic Safety and
Promotion Section to reduce the amount of crashes, deaths and injuries on South Australian
roads."
