| New SLK roadster joins Mercedes' sportscar line-up - 16/10/97 |
 Mercedes-Benz Australia has continued its
move to incorporate more sporty, youth-oriented products
in its model range with the addition of the SLK 200
roadster.Priced at $87,300, the SLK 200 represents premium sportscar value. Besides the engine specification, only ASR antiskid control is absent compared to the range-leading SLK 230 Kompressor model. Notably, the SLK 200 still features Mercedes' unique, steel folding roof which transforms the roadster from open top sportscar into a fully weather-proofed coupe in only 25 seconds. The new roadster perfectly complements Mercedes-Benz Australia's growing sportscar and coupe line-up which now also includes the dashing CLK coupe. Mercedes~Benz Australia's managing director, Bernt Schlickum, said the addition of the new SLK 200 could lead to a shorter wait list - currently at two years for the SLK 230.
