Jeep Wrangler sets new sales record - Dec 1997

CHRYSLER Jeep Australia sold 721 vehicles in November with Jeep Wrangler sales reaching an all-time sales-high -- 216 units.

"Jeep Wrangler has achieved the highest sales since it was launched in Australia in October last year," said Bill Needle, director - general manager, Chrysler Jeep Australia.

"Jeep Wrangler carries on the tradition that started with the original World War II Jeep - and it has fallen into favour with a growing number of Australians," he said.

Offered in three models—all of which can be converted into hard or soft top—Jeep Wrangler is powered by a four-litre six-cylinder engine with part-time dual-range four-wheel-drive.

Standard on all models is coil suspension, modern interior, twin airbags and classic round headlights.

"There is no doubt Wrangler has become a cult vehicle in Australia, whether you live in the outback, on the beach, or in the inner-city suburbs," said Bronwyn Humphrey, national marketing manager for Chrysler Jeep Australia.

Chrysler’s seven-seat V6 Voyager also performed well in November selling 142 units—retaining the number two position in the People Mover segment.

Launched in March this year, Voyager was recently voted the Daily Telegraph’s Best People Mover of 1997, and also won Radio 2KY’s Best People Mover award.

So far this year Chrysler Jeep Australia has sold 9542 units -- 40 per cent up on the same sales period in 1996.
