| Signing on for `Kids Under Cover' - 24/11/97 |
Former Prime Minister Bob Hawke has added
his signature to a dazzling white Daewoo Leganza sedan as
part of a national promotion to raise funds, and
awareness, for the KIDS UNDER COVER organisation. The Daewoo Leganza, which was donated by Daewoo Automotive Australia, is travelling all over Australia gathering signatures from famous public figures and sporting legends to boost the visibility of this important children's shelter programme. The Leganza will be auctioned next year together with a host of 'must have' memorabilia. Bob Hawke has always been a vocal champion for the protection of children in our society and he agrees that KIDS UNDER COVER is making a major contribution to this important community need. The organisation was formed in 1989 by prominent car dealer Ken Morgan. Since then KIDS UNDER COVER has sheltered hundreds of homeless and 'at risk' children and given them the chance to rebuild their lives and allow them become valued members of the community. Specifically, KIDS UNDER COVER aims to increase the supply of appropriate quality housing to welfare agencies, making it possible for them to provide a safe and supported home environment. From this stable base they can finish their education, or undertake appropriate training so they can go on to lead independent and productive lives. Signatures already taking up space on the Leganza include The Seekers, Tommy Emmanuel, Gough Whitlam, Kim Beazley, Jon Bon Jovi, Kylie Minogue, Human Nature, Daryl Sommers, Jane Fleming, Greg Matthews, Guy Pearce, Russell Crowe and Cheryl Kernot. |
