| HYUNDAI Automotive's sales
last month were a record for September and kept
the company on track for its target of 60,000
sales this year, managing director Mr Doug Croker
said today. Mr Croker
said Australian motorists bought 3860 Hyundai
cars in the month compared with the September
record of 3753 cars set last year.
He said total Hyundai sales
this year are also a record at 44,929 cars Ämore
than 6500 or 1 7.1 per cent ahead of the same
stage last year.
Hyundai's share of the
passenger-car market is 11.4 per cent while its
total market share for the nine months is 8.6 per
cent compared with 7.9 per cent at the end of
September 1996.
"We expect a big push
during October now that all our models are at
drive-away prices and include air-conditioning as
standard," he said.
Most growth this year has
come from the Lantra and Sonata which are selling
at record levels.
"Lantra sales have
jumped almost 73 per cent from 5443 to 9404 while
Sonata, at 6377 sales, has risen more than 59 per
cent on the 4007 sold at the same stage last
year.
"Coupe continues as
the best-selling sports car with 1762 sales, or
19.5 per cent of its segment. Excel is easily the
top-selling four-cylinder car this year with
27,336 sales --almost 12,000 ahead of
Corolla," he said.
