Lexus has launched its
1998-year-model flagship LS400, offering improved
performance, active and passive safety, comfort
and convenience, and lower noise levels.Lexus has held the price of the new
vehicle to $155,350 -- $10,000 beneath its
nearest direct competitor and $100,000 less than
its most expensive rival.
Leading-edge technology in
the new model includes intelligent variable valve
timing for the Quad Cam V8 engine, an intelligent
five-speed automatic transmission with gate-type
shift, vehicle stability control as standard
equipment and self-levelling High Intensity
Discharge headlamps.
The 1998-year-model LS400
body has all-new metal from the firewall forward.
Its 4.0-1itre engine is
almost completely new from its acoustic-control
induction system (ACIS) and electronic throttle
to the oil pan.
Performance is further
improved, with 0-100km/h acceleration in 6.9
seconds combined with 7.6 litre/100km (38mpg)
highway fuel economy.
Steering and handling have
been improved, and better tailored to Australian
driving tastes, while retaining excellent ride
comfort.
Safety improvements include
the introduction of vehicle stability control,
force-limiting front seatbelt pretensioners, a
Head Impact Protection Structure and rear fog
lamps.
New features range from a
comprehensive trip computer to a new keyless
entry system, automatic sound levelling on the
audio system and auto-up on the driver's window.
In addition, LS400 has new
green window glass which filters ultra-violet and
infra-red light.
The new LS400 will be
offered in a range of new exterior and interior
colours, with a new five-spoke alloy wheel
design.
Convenience features
include a new customised body electronics system,
which allows owners to tailor the vehicle to
their personal needs.
The feeling of luxury and
style has been enhanced, with more woodgrain in
the centre console and a gunmetal grey facia
around the audio system.
Options include a new
steering wheel and gear knob which combine wood
and leather.
