| Honda Australia and its
Dealer network have achieved their fifth
successive month of record car sales, according
to the official VFACTS sales figures released
today. The Honda
tally of 1420 units for September eclipsed the
previous September record of 1278 units set in
1992.
The Honda sales were made
up of 1319 passenger cars - 41 more than the
previous record - and 101 CR-V four-wheel drives
delivered to customers after the national launch
in the last week of the month.
Civic was again Honda's top
seller, achieving 641 units - 100 more than for
the same month last year.
Prelude outpaced its rivals
to finish the month at No.1 in the sports
segment.
Accord, which has moved
into run-out mode before the arrival of the 1998
model late in the year, continued strongly at 320
units.
Honda has notched up
consecutive monthly records since May, and is now
running 409 units ahead of last year's record
pace.
Honda General Manager Sales
Tony Devers said Honda's overall sales had been
lifted by the arrival of the new CR-V late in the
month.
"The CR-V is the icing
on the cake in a great year for Honda so
far," he said.
"We were already
achieving record numbers with our passengers
cars, but now we are enjoying incremental
business in the 4x4 market "
Mr Devers said Honda sales
would have been even higher but for the late
arrival of shipments of in-demand models,
particularly Civic and CR-V.
"Those shipments have
now arrived and we are looking forward to a very
good October."
