Go to Bathurst and drive The Mountain !

The chance to drive Bathurst’s famous Mount Panorama circuit at your own speed is every red-blooded motoring enthusiast’s dream.

On the 13th & 14th of March 1999, it will become an almost unbelievable reality for around 60 people.

Specialist British track and touring event organiser, Wheeltorque, have done what everyone thought was impossible - booked the Great Race circuit for two days of virtually unlimited private track time.

It is the first time the Bathurst City Council has closed the famous Mount Panorama roads for an individual organisation outside scheduled events.

The exclusive opportunity comes after a week-long moving feast of track activities for participants straight after the Qantas Australian Grand Prix. Participants will experience Sandown (Monday 8 March), Winton (9 March) and Sydney’s Eastern Creek (11 March) en route to Bathurst, via a touring programme. The entire track programme can cost as little as $1550 per person.

Around 30 overseas enthusiasts from the U.K. and New Zealand are expected to answer the Bathurst call, some bringing their own vehicles the experience. Many have previously taken part in Wheeltorque’s private days on the challenging Nurburgring North Circuit and at Spa-Francorchamps.

The balance of places in the seven-day ‘Bathurst track Drive’ programme will be filled by Australians.

Enquires have already been received from Jaguar, Holden, Porsche and historic racing vehicle owners - some with past Bathurst racing cars.

Entrants can bring their special vehicle, run on slicks if they wish and even take passengers for the experience! There are no parades or pace cars to limit the enjoyment.

However, the week’s programme is totally non-competitive, with racing not allowed and time-keeping discouraged.

Instructors will be available at each circuit to assist participants as will a full marshalling team, including a doctor.

All officials are FIA, RAC or CAMS qualified, under the control of well-known International Clerk of Course, John Felix, who runs Britain’s annual Goodwood Speed Festival.

Three levels of participation are offered, from $1550 to $4000 per person, depending on accommodation, Qantas Australian Grand Prix and other hospitality choices.
