NSW and the ACT to come under national control

In April 2000, Suzuki Australia will take over the importation and distribution of its cars and commercial vehicles in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory.

It’s the second major assumption by Suzuki of control over its Australian operations. Former Western Australian distributor, Mortlock Syme Darby, relinquished its hold in July `98, so Queensland is now the only state with independent distribution, by Suzuki Auto/Mayfairs.

The present importer for ACT and NSW, Ateco Automotive Pty Ltd, will continue to distribute parts and accessories on behalf of the Japanese car maker.

"We are pleased to be able to continue our relationship with Ateco," says Terry Toh, managing director of Suzuki Australia.

"Ateco has proven to be one of the best Suzuki distributors and its on-going support is central to our plans to grow Suzuki car and commercial vehicles sales in Australia."

While Ateco continues to provide the parts and accessory service for Suzuki in New South Wales and the ACT, Suzuki Australia will take over the entire Suzuki dealer group that has been established by Ateco. The Sydney-based importer has distributed Suzuki cars and commercial vehicles in Australia for 25 years.

Based in Melbourne, Suzuki Australia is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Suzuki Motor Corporation of Japan and distributes the company’s motor bikes as well as the range of car and commercial vehicles.

"Following so many years of successful vehicles sales, I am pleased that we are able to continue our relationship with Suzuki," says Neville Crichton, governing director of Ateco.

"This, along with the continuing growth and diversification of other areas of Ateco’s business operations, will ensure that the change in distribution is smooth and amicable for all the parties involved."
