Hot on the heels of the stylish and
affordable new Proton Satria GL hatch back comes a five door hatch 
back model called the Persona GLi.Persona GLi is the latest addition to
Proton’s MY (Model Year) 2000 range and, like Satria GL, has a newly developed 1.3L,
SOHC, fuel injected, four cylinder engine.
But the big news concerns Persona’s price that, once again, sets a benchmark other
manufacturers will find difficult to compete with and new car buyers will simply love.
At $16,990 drive away with air conditioning and power steering, plus a handsome
standard equipment inventory, Persona GLi will appeal to drivers who need an affordable,
practical sedan with style and low running costs.
Bill Gillespie, Proton Australia’s national sales and marketing manager, said
Persona GLi offers a lot of car for just a little money.
"It’s our value for money story again, this time in a more practical package
that should have broad appeal to a wide range of buyers," said Mr Gillespie.
"Persona GLi makes an excellent family car with the ability to carry four in
comfort and has all the features we consider should be standard in every vehicle -
immobiliser, air conditioning, power steering and much more.
"Then again, young singles or couples will appreciate the extra doors when friends
are around or there is a large item to be transported. Persona GLi’s rear seats fold
down to provide a large load area."
Mr Gillespie said Persona GLi compares very favourably in its market segment using any
criteria; performance, fuel economy, standard equipment, styling, safety or practicality.
Persona GLi benefits from Lotus development of Proton cars, the effects increasingly
evident in vehicle dynamics.
Lotus is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Proton, and all new models from Proton will be
refined to some degree by Lotus.
Persona GLi’s aesthetics are boosted by 14in wheels with full wheel trims, painted
bumpers and painted exterior mirrors.
Inside, the upholstery is an attractive patterned cloth with a sporty carbon-fibre-look
dash fascia and full instrumentation.
Five fresh new colours have been added to the Persona colour card and the car is
available with a five speed manual transmission ..
