| Toyota's
new value-for-money Camry has captured
the blue ribbon Best Family Sedan
category in the NRMA's Best Cars of 1997
awards, while the company's LandCruiser
Prado was named Best Four Wheel Drive for
the second consecutive year. Camry beat off its three
major locally produced competitors,
including a new release from a big six
manufacturer, to secure the Best Family
Sedan category - the NRMA's premier
award.

Camry last month received
the RACV's Best Fleet Vehicle award.
The NRMA's judges were
impressed with Toyota's ability to deliver the
new Camry at a cheaper price.
"Toyota has not only
built a superior car, it has done it with price
reductions of thousands of dollars," the
NRMA said.
This was the most difficult
manufacturing task of all, according to the NRMA.
"A sporting edge to
its handling and its driving enjoyment has been
achieved without compromising comfort," the
NRMA added.
"Camry is more agile
and responsive than Falcon and Commodore thanks
to its lighter weight and smaller dimensions.
"The new Camry V6 is
characterised by outstanding performance and
refinement."
New Camry, available in
2.2-1itre four cylinder and 3.0 litre V6
variants, has taken the Australian market by
storm since its launch in August.
In September Camry and
Vienta posted 3,567 sales.
Toyota is set to capitalise
on Prado's victory in the NRMA's Best'
Four-Wheel-Drive category as dealer stock levels
are sufficient to handle demand.
According to the NRMA, the
LandCruiser Prado has redefined value for money
in the medium four wheel drive class.
"First class build and
finish quality, advanced power-train technology
and class leading safety features are featured in
the Prado," the NRMA said.
Prices for Toyota Prado
start at $36,990 for the 2.7-1itre four-cylinder
RV and $39,990 for the V6 3.4 litre RV6.
