Hyundai plans a strong sales push to the end of the year with great deals on the Excel Sprint and Lantra sedan and wagon.

Everyone who buys an Excel Sprint, at $13,990 drive-away with free air, between now and Christmas will get $1000 cash to spend as they wish.

That’s $1000 from Hyundai for Christmas presents and food, $1000 for a holiday, $1000 to reduce credit card charges, $1000 to buy accessories for their new car or $1000 as a deposit on their car.

Hyundai has also built a Lantra Sportz sedan at $19,990 and Lantra Sportzwagon at $20,990 that include $5000 of special-value features.

The features are air-conditioning, alloy wheels, single CD player, rear spoiler (sedan), drive-away pricing and Sportz striping.

Hyundai’s general manager - marketing Ms Nikki King said customers are the winners because of the determination by the company and its dealers to end 1998 on a high.

"We want to produce record sales of 60,000 cars this year, and the best way to do that is to offer buyers added value in our cars," Ms King said.

"Our competitors try to attack the Excel with their advertising because they cannot match the Excel’s size, interior space, performance, good looks and overall value for money.

"Those features make it the best-selling small car and the best-selling four-cylinder car in the country - by a country mile.

"And an extra $1000 comes in pretty handy at this time of year," she said.

Ms King said the features chosen for the Lantra Sportz promotion are those that are often sought by customers in this market segment.

"We made ‘drive away, no more to pay’ a household phrase, so we want to remind people that those on-road costs would normally cost about $2000.

"Once you start adding air-conditioning at a similar cost and extras such as alloy wheels and a CD player, then our customers are receiving a very nice Christmas present.
