The comprehensively equipped Odyssey out-classed the Toyota Tarago,
Volkswagen Caravelle and Chrysler Voyager in the awards, announced by the RACV in
Melbourne today.
The RACV judges said the Honda Odyssey remained the most appealing vehicle in its
class.
"Significantly less expensive, despite its equipment specification, Odyssey
delivers responsive performance with class-leading fuel economy," the judges said.
"A smart cabin design provides easy conversion from seating to load function,
build quality is high and excellent dynamics disguise the utilitarian nature of the
vehicle."
Accepting the award, Honda's senior director Neal Robertson said Honda had been
confident the Odyssey would be a sales success before it was launched, but never envisaged
winning four RACV Best Buys Awards in succession.
"This award means a great deal to Honda, our Dealers and our customers," he
said.
The Honda Odyssey won its first RACV Best Buys Award in 1995 the same year it
was named Wheels Car of the Year.
The most recent Odyssey has been updated with a larger, more powerful 2.3-litre VTEC
engine and super-smooth automatic transmission.
Priced at $42,500, the Odyssey is available in six and seven-seat configurations and
has automatic transmission, air-conditioning, dual SRS airbags and ABS brakes as standard
equipment.
