Five out of three for HR-V

Honda has boosted the value and size of its popular compact four-wheel drive, the HR-V, with the addition of a new five-door model.

Both variants are powered by the same 1.6-litre four-cylinder LEV engine and are equipped with Honda’s Real-Time four-wheel-drive system.

The five-door gains reinforcements in the side sills and joint sections of the rear frame to enhance body rigidity.

Both HR-V models feature numerous multi-purpose storage areas, including a new pullout cupholder in the centre console for rear passengers.

The five-door’s dash layout and interior trim has been revised, with the power mirror switches moved to the dash.

A digital clock is located in the AM/FM radio display in both five-door and three-door models, and an in-dash six-stacker CD player becomes an option for the first time.

The HR-V five-door’s rear parcel tray is fitted with a net pocket to accommodate rear seat movement, and heater ducts are also provided for the rear seats.

A new-shape rear spoiler with high-mounted rear stop light is standard on both models.

The colour range has been freshened for 2000 with two new colours available on the five-door model - Lightning Silver and Fresh Copper.

Both HR-V models come with a long list of standard features including dual airbags, remote keyless entry, power windows and mirrors, body-colour bumpers, and the larger five-door gains two extra speakers for the AM/FM radio.

The Real Time four-wheel-drive system uses simple hydraulics to detect slip in the front wheels and activate a clutch to provide four-wheel traction when needed.

Both HR-V five-door and three-door variants meet stringent safety standards.

The HR-V has a frontal crash protection structure that sets the world standard for occupant safety technologies to minimise injuries to pedestrians. It meets international test standards at 55km/h and front offset collisions up to 64km/h. The interior has been designed to minimise passenger head injuries.

Pricing for the HR-V begins at $22,750 for the three-door manual and $24,950 for the three-door automatic CVT. The HR-V five-door manual is $24,750 and the five-door automatic CVT is $26,950.

Honda Australia’s general manager of sales and marketing, Tony Devers, said the HR-V range has proven an increasingly popular choice for lifestyle vehicle buyers.

"The addition of a five door model will enhance the HR-V’s reputation as an affordable and versatile package," he said.
