In its best ever single month sales performance, Daewoo captured
4.4% share of the Australian passenger car market in November.
With sales of 2111 cars, Daewoo exceeded its previous best month by almost 400 units.
Following the successful launch of Daewoos new models in the small and medium car
segments, the fast-growing sales performance of the Lanos, Nubira and Leganza shows they
have established a strong niche in the market.
Daewoos overall sales performance eclipsed Honda (1205) and Nissan (1837), and
was only 68 units less than Mazdas result (2179).
In the small car sector Daewoos Cielo, Lanos and Nubira achieved a 10.8% share,
putting Daewoo in the Top Four with Hyundai, Toyota and Mitsubishi.
Daewoos Leganza sedan scored a 7.1% share of the medium sector, with sales of 317
units. Leganza outsold the Hyundai Sonata (237), Mazda 626 sedan (247), Mondeo sedan (309)
and Subaru Liberty sedan (250) and was one unit short of Vectras sedan sales (318).
Holdens Vectra and Fords Mondeo similar individual shares of 8.7% were
boosted by hatchback and wagon models.
Daewoo jumped to number seven on the sales Top 10 in November, with a Year To Date
total of 14,291 sales. A similar result in December will mean Daewoo will exceed its own
forecast of 15,000 sales in 1997.
Since sales began in September 1994, Daewoo has sold just over 40,000 cars in Australia
to become the fastest growing importer in Australia s automotive sales charts.
