18th March, 2001 Larko sees yellow after smart sponsor gain Mark Larkham is back from the brink and ready to fire, in an all-yellow attack on this year's V8 Supercar championship. The Queensland owner/driver today announced a three-year deal with
Intelligent Card Systems (ICS) as major, naming-rights sponsor. The team will be known as
'Team Smartcar.'The Australian-owned technology company replaces long-time Larkham supporter Mitre 10, who withdrew support earlier this year. "We've had a major change in sponsorship. It's been a tough couple of months, we've been on our hands and knees seeing what we could dig up and we've found a great new sponsor, " Larkham told Channel Ten's RPM program in unveiling the car this afternoon. The ICS 'SMARTcar' branding features prominently on the Falcon's bonnet and side panels. Karcher remains with Larkham as windscreen sponsor, while Ford and NGK also continue their association. Despite speculation to the contrary, Larkham will run the team's sole Falcon throughout the early rounds, however a second car is "very possible" for later in the season. Larkham heads to Queensland Raceway tomorrow morning for a final shakedown ahead of the opening round at Phillip Island next weekend. |
