Clarion
Proton Rally Trophy gains more sponsorship
Australia's
one-make rally series, the Clarion Proton Rally Trophy, will again be a
part of the Australian Rally Championship commencing at the Rally of
Queensland on June15-16. The Clarion Proton series will again
feature the 1.3 litre Proton Satria GL as its control vehicle, with
Malaysian tyre manufacturer Silverstone coming on board as supplier of
control tyres for the series. Clarion Car Audio has again signed on as
naming rights sponsor, allowing the series to offer $12,000 in
prizemoney and travel incentives to competitors over four rounds. Proton Cars Australia general manager
John Startari believes the one-make series is a great way to showcase
the performance capabilities and toughness of the standard Protons under
competition conditions. "The Satrias have proven to be one
of the most cost effective and reliable rally cars around with
competitors enjoying a season of rallying for less than it costs
competitors in other cars for one event," said Mr Startari.
2000 Proton Rally Trophy winner Ashlea
James won a drive in the final round of the World Rally Championship in
a Proton and the 2001 winner Tod Reed has this year moved up to a Super
1600 Proton he won as part of his prize for winning last year. Proton Australia is offering new
competitors a substantial discount on Satria GLs to assist them in
joining the series, and competitors will be given discount prices on all
spare parts bought through the Proton dealer network nationally for use
on Proton rally cars. Competitors planning to participate in
the Clarion Proton Rally Trophy this year should advise Proton Cars
Australia of their intentions so that you can be registered for the
series. CLARION PROTON RALLY
