V8 Stock Cars
Oran Park - Round One
Miedecke
hat-tricks V8 Stock Car series-opener
Andrew Miedecke comfortably won the
opening round of the Power Tour's V8 Stock Cars at Oran Park today.
Winning all three 15 lap races, Miedecke seemingly
took his time passing his rivals rather than risking damage with haste.
Starting from pole position in race one, his Chev Monte Carlo was
initially outgunned by the Pontiac of Mark Harrison who started alongside.
However, when they emerged from turn one, it was Miedecke in front and
never in doubt of a win from that point
.
Harrison dropped to fourth place as Tony Southwell (Chev) and Miedecke's
team mate Chris Templer forged ahead. For many laps Southwell and Templer
ran nose to tail before the latter took over second as they approached the
midway point of the race.
In the meantime Harrison lost his second spot to the Ford Thunderbird of
Dick Howe and then, in the concluding stages the Thunderbirds of Sam Dale
and Dean Wanless also slipped past.
Miedecke also took out the reverse grid race after starting from the back.
Southwell was the early leader from team mate Duncan Bain (Chev) while
Templer was third. However within a handful of laps Miedecke was hovering
and ready to pounce.
He had the lead shortly after and wasn't troubled as Templer moved to
second, fighting off Harrison all the way to the finish. Southwell and
Bain were the next two ahead of Dale.
