Series
lead to Full after two wins
Mitsubishi driver Geoff Full
stamped his authority on the 2002 Australian GT Performance Championship
by wrapping up the opening round in Adelaide today.
Full
finished the weekend with the maximum possible 31points from pole
position and two wins, giving him a seven-point lead over defending
champion Brett Peters.
Peters' Subaru Impreza STi led the heavier Mitsubishi away from the
start and took the lead for the first three laps. But when Full got
past, Peters continued to fight and over the last three laps each broke
the lap record twice. The gap between them at the finish was just 1.1
seconds.
"That was a great way to start the season, but I don't expect it to
continue,” said Full.
“This
was a Mitsubishi track but next we go to Symmons Plains and the power of
the Holdens will be a big threat.”
Third and fourth places were taken by Graham Alexander (Mitsubishi Evo V)
and Peter Floyd (Holden Commodore GTS), in a reversal of their finishing
positions yesterday.
Round two of the championship will be run at Symmons Plains, Tasmania, on
5-7 April. This weekend's races will be shown on Speedweek on SBS TV from
3.30 pm on Saturday 30 March.
