Coulthard maintains good form at AGP, Whincup thrills

New Zealand's Fabian Coulthard has emerged victorious yet again, winning the Kärcher Formula Ford Track Attack at the Australian Grand Prix despite a courageous attempt by Jamie Whincup in today's race three.

Whincup started today's race at the back of the grid after a crash yesterday with his team mate Marcus Marshall left his Van Diemen with serious damage.

Determined to make amends, Whincup quickly worked his way up the positions, moving from 24th to fifth by the end of the second lap, and thrilling spectators with some exciting passing. Despite the intermittent rain Whincup clocked a race-best time of 2:08.448 on the fifth lap, and climbed to third position.

By this stage Coulthard had comfortably extended his lead, and was on his way to another victory at the Albert Park circuit.

After taking 1.3 seconds per lap off Coulthard's lead, and overtaking Nick Agland's second-placed Spectrum on the sixth lap, Whincup was still unable to catch the quick Kiwi.

After starting today's race at the front of the grid, Agland finished third, with Bart Mawer crossing the line fourth.

Coulthard was overjoyed with results of the weekend, and is hoping to celebrate with his famous third cousin David tonight;  "I'm really pleased to have won today's race, but full credit must also go to Jamie who did a marvellous job."

Whincup was pleased to have made up for yesterday's disappointment; "I can't believe the extreme highs and lows of this weekend - I'm just really pleased to have repaid the effort the team put in last night rebuilding
my car."

The Revolution Racegear Hard Charger Award for race three was awarded to Andrew Jones who, after experiencing technical difficulties yesterday, gallantly climbed from 30th position to finish eighth.

More exciting open-wheel racing will continue when the Ford Racing Formula Ford Championship kicks off at Wakefield Park on March 31st.
