7th April Evans
wins heat, Bourne takes event Victoria’s
Simon Evans has won
Heat 2 of WA’s Respect Yourself Forest Rally, 26-seconds clear of Possum
Bourne and Ed Ordynski who tied for second place ahead of Scott Pedder. The
overall event win –based on aggregate points from both Heats – goes to
the reigning Australian Rally Champion, Possum Bourne, ahead of Ed
Ordynski and Scott Pedder. Evans had
set a cracking pace from the start of Heat Two this morning. He was
fastest through the event’s opening stage (Brockman 25.51km) with a
stunning time of 14 minutes 59 seconds, seven seconds ahead of
Mitsubishi’s Ed Ordynski and eight seconds ahead of yesterday’s Heat
winner, Possum Bourne. Proving
that was no flash in the pan, Evans quickly followed up with fastest time
on the second stage (Folly 15.85km) At around
the halfway mark with 41 kilometres remaining, just one second separated
Ordynski and Bourne, and the pair were shaping up for a ding-dong battle.
At the end of the Brockman stage, with two stages and 16.7 kilometres to
go, they were locked into the tie they maintained for second. Heat
