Privateers
blitz Busselton
Privateers Simon Evans and
Osamu Yamaguchi blitzed last night’s (Friday 5 April) Silverstone
Busselton Super Stage, to hold the joint lead as the Respect Yourself
Forest Rally heads into the forests of WA’s southwest today.
A crowd of more than 10,000 people flocked to the Busselton foreshore to
witness the start of the Australian Rally Championship round, and the
action on the twisting tarmac Super Stage didn’t disappoint.
The fastest time of the night was set by Victoria’s Evans (Subaru
Impreza WRX) who covered the 2.39 kilometre circuit in a blistering 1
minute 46 seconds on his second outing (SS2) after a miscalculation coming
into turn one cost him precious seconds on his initial run (SS1).
Consistently smooth driving paid off for Yamaguchi (Mitsubishi Lancer
Evo3) with a combination of his times equalling Evans, giving the pair top
billing for the Busselton event four seconds clear of equal third-place
getters WA’s Stuart Warren and Victoria’s Scott Pedder.
Top-placed factory driver was Subaru’s Cody Crocker, one second behind
Warren and Pedder and a second ahead of his team-mates Possum Bourne and
Dean Herridge in equal sixth. Mitsubishi’s Ed Ordynski finished the
night in ninth spot, eight seconds off the leaders.
The rally resumes today (Saturday 6 April) in the pine forests around the
southwest timbertown of Nannup and concludes on Sunday at noon.
