Unique event set for two states

A MOTORSPORT event open to drivers of all skill levels, in standard, road-registered vehicles, the third annual Dutton Rally is this year to be held in its original home of Victoria and also in New South Wales.

The Victorian rally will be held in Shepparton and surrounding areas from 8 – 10 August 2003, and organisers have announced the inaugural Dutton Rally NSW, from 17 – 19 October 2003.

Beginning in Sydney, the NSW rally will include 17 individual driving tests staged at Eastern Creek international Raceway, Goulburn Airport, NSW Police Driver Training Facility and Wakefield Park and Goulburn city centre.

Motoring aficionados from around Australia gather for the annual Victorian event, and the inaugural NSW version is expected to be just as popular.

Entrants compete in teams (driver and co-driver) for the fastest times.  In a highly organised and expertly controlled environment, closed circuits offer the competitors a well-balanced selection of individual performance-based driving tests including motorkhanas, circuit sprints and speed trials.

The winner of each event must amass the lowest total time, but the Dutton Rally is distinct from other similar motorsport events as there is navigation involved in the challenge.

In Victoria, the three days of competition begin at Shepparton Airport and DECA (Driving Education Centre of Australia) with slalom and sprints, and wet motorkhana and circuit sprint.  Day two comprises long circuits and wet circle at Winton Motor Raceway followed by motorkhana at SPC’s car park, Shepparton, open to spectators.  A combination of drags at Heathcote Park Raceway and auto tests at Avalon Airport will fill out day three, with the rally completed with a trophy presentation.

“The annual Dutton Rally provides the public with a serious motorsport event that is both fun and competitive,” said event director Sam Beck.

“The event appeals to performance vehicle enthusiasts, for a weekend of spirited driving for the love of it, in a safe and well-controlled off-road environment.  And now in 2003, we are expanding to the NSW market to provide access to the event to a whole new group of enthusiasts.”

Entries for 2003 are now open, for full details visit duttonrally.com.  The 2003 Dutton Rally is fully sanctioned by the Confederation of Motor Sport (CAMS).
