Yeah mate, Same as Peter said above I found it on google images although I`d go a bit further and say that`s the best looking ute I`ve ever seen!
It`s also the screen saver on my computer.
Doing a ute at the moment and I hope you don`t mind me copying yours. Different colour though...

Mate I`m after soom info too...
What did you paint your door handles and windscreen surrounds with and could you possibly post a close-up pic of the blackouts around your windscreen and one of the doors?
I can`t find a good pic on the net for a guide.

Congratulations Rusty, Your ute is famous but you`re probably entitled to feel a bit gipped seeing `copyright` plastered across it!

PAUL

Have a look at the Holden General discussion & technical Talk Section & look for the post HZ SANDMAN UTES ONLY

theres a Light blue original HZ sandman ute with good pictures on where the blackouts go .

I spoke to the Guy whos selling those mugs & he swore Black & Blue that It was not my Ute

He reckons that he got the pictures from a guy in Queensland who owned a light blue HZ sandman ute .

Check out the pictures below

The 1st ute picture is my ute from the start of this forum.

The 2nd ute picture is his drawing that he is selling on T shirts & mugs on Ebay

The 3rd ute picture both his & mine over the top of each other . Courtesy of my wife who is a graphic designer.

There are a few minor differences.

My exhaust was hidden under the tray so he has drawn one in on the wrong side

My ute does not have any pull down ropes like all HZ sandman Utes do because I welded them up also I have no petrol cap on outside , I

welded that up and reversed it around to the inside of the tray to make it all look neat.

Also what a coincidence that his drawing has my old jellybean rims on it . And GTS guards not supposed to have them either .

He changed the Sandman lettering a little bit & moved the rear indicator on the Quarter.

Its definately my ute he has pinched to make money off .

Thanks for that mate. I`ll have a looksie for the HZ stuff.

About that other thing...
You can tell with one quick glance where the image for the pencil sketch came from.
The thing to do would have been ask for permission or come to some type of arrangement with you but I suppose they don`t do their business like that!
Sounds like he`s full of sh#t as well!
Don`t buy one of those mugs whatever you do...LOL

You take great pics by the way...

Paul.

wow.. that guy def used that picture as a reference, thats for sure!
dunno how old he is though either.. that looks like something id draw when i was 15. just the dumb shadow, poor perspective on the wheels, and the fact he drew the door shutlines on that thick when its in direct sunlight. :S
whats it matter if he used it though? its not as if he traced it. doesnt matter that you took the orig photo and its your car, since its a drawing done by him. no matter what, the drawing is HIS picture. :/
probably should admit he used the pic though. BIT rude there..

cars looking top notch though btw. looks awesome in the pics by the beach.
saw it in last months street machine readers rides too!

i think ive asked you before; but what width/profile are you running on the 15X7s at the front?

Yep he is full of S**T

Oh I dont care if he used it or not . Its just that he said to me a few months ago it wasnt my ute. It was from another ute in Queensland. Ive never seen a Ute with all my modifications , Even the number plate light lower panel is missing . I invented removing that . Anyway we all know its mine. F*** HIM.

Thanks Fellas for great comments.

The profile tyres on the front are 225 / 50 / 15 Rear are 265 / 50 / 15

Hey Paul ,

The paint I used to paint the windscreen moulds & wipers was just a black gloss spray can paint .

Make sure you rub the chrome with 400 -600 then primer spray can the first coats over the rubbed chrome very light then wait to dry

then give it 3 wet coats of primer . Do each coat in the hot sun .

When DRY rub with 1000 . then prepsol then ur ready for paint . Paint the black on in the hot sun light flash coat first then bomb it on

a bit last to get a wet look shine that will look great. ( Worked for me )

Probably to much info 4 u but you never know mita helped .

Thanks Rusty, I can follow that when the time comes. Got a fair way to go yet...

Don`t sell that ute whatever you do or you`ll be kicking yourself forever!
Like I said I`m copying yours so I`ll show you when it`s done.
If it comes out anywhere near as good as yours I`ll be happy.
You set a very high benchmark.

Thanks for this great thread with lots of info,
Paul,

Thats a pretty good price. I think from memory you had said it was a replica too? Guess it depends on whether you could build another for less than $22k. There was a ute on ebay recently for $25 that didnt get a bid

No worries paul , Good luck with yours man, Im flattered with your comments, cheers . Have you thought about signing up & putting

a post on your resto Ute. Id love to see the stages & what ur starting with .

22k well , I think I worked out that My Ute Owes me about $16,000. Remember the panel & paint job cost me $400. Took me 150 hours to do the body

X that by $50 hour theres $7500 in labour you can add to the 16k, OH I have gone over 22k.

I could probably think of more money it owes me , yep I just did.

That Ebay link Hx sandman . Do you really think that was original HZ SANDMAN , Needed full rebuild to be showroom condition.

There was no cut outs where the front spoiler went . Nice ute bit untidy , It would of had to be original.

Yeah Mate, No worries...just singed in.

I got an `84 WB. Running gear goes well and spent an arm and a leg at Pedders and Bridgestone get the suspension and brakes spot on.
It needed some paint and had a few rust issues... (cough cough).
It was right at the stage where I had to keep spending money on it.
I would lose too much if I let it go...

I was getting a bit bored with the square headlight front and just wanted something different. I always liked Sandmans and found your ute on google images then found my way in here. Also been looking at that fellas HJ GTS and that HQ ute. As that fella was saying if it turns out being a 20ft ute I`ll still be happy.

Another backwayd job done in my brothers shed. He`s giving me a big hand with it (even though he`s a `Fordie`). He`ll end up spraying it for me. Deep down inside they secretely love our Holdens although they`ll never admit it!

Someone will tell me that HZ Sandys` never came out with six-bangers... thanks for that. The motor goes just fine and it`s staying! The `Stato` steats are going back in along with a few other things too...
I could`nt give a rats arse about `Sandman ID tags` and the like as well!

Paul.

A few pix from varous stages...

Definitely not worth selling then lol. 25k was ambitious considering the work to be done. At 10k it makes it worthwhile, but any dog of a ute thats a sandman seems to go for big money now.

I sold this ute for 10k two years ago, which I thought was a fair price.

Pretty neat - just needed a few odd jobs. Whats it worth now I wonder??
