Hi Guys need some mechanical here, Ive been restoring my 77 LX Torana 6cyl auto for the past ten years and just completed all the paint, body and interior now starting on the brakes, The problem is that the hydraulics seem to be locked on with a lot of pressure, I replaced the front pads and the pistons went in and out ok but everything seems to locked up, Has this happened to anyone else or do you have an idea of what is causing this? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Probably your lines and hoses are clogged. Pull it all apart and use compressed air to free the lines, but they may need replacement (get onto Andy Lee in Victoria). Hoses will need replacement.

Well done. You are nearly finished!

A wild guess because I don't know anything about Toranas. I'm assuming the brakes are disc as you say 'pads' not 'shoes'.

I have front drum brakes on my HJ.
I'll quote from the Gregory's manual.

"Check valves are installed at each outlet port in the master cylinder in order to maintain a residual pressure in the pipe and wheel cylinders.
NOTE: The check valve is omitted on the outlet to the front wheels when front disc brakes are installed."

If you have one of these check valves in the front brake line that would lock pressure in the lines. Maybe. Dunno. A quick search suggests earlier Toranas had front drums?
