I've been reading through numerous HQ posts trying to work out a HQ Coupe body number. I've found a HQ Coupe that I'm a bit suspect about. As usual missing tags!

Correct me if I'm wrong, the stamped number on the firewall is a production line number?
Was there any information recorded by the factory on the history of the body? Body number stamped is 16420S

I did a PPSR check on the chassis number EHQ29781S. The report associated the chassis to a 1974 Holden Sedan. I can only assume the search data referenced old registration info as it also mentions GOLD in colour and running a 6 cylinder.

Any advice is greatly appreciated
Cheers John

Contact Holden Historical Services. Ben will be able to figure out what the car was mechanically.

I’m 99% sure that chassis number doesn’t belong to that firewall number though. And without tags it is not really a car you want to spend dollars on.

I agree 100% HK1837. I sanded part of the body that revealed it being a red car. The PPSR report has the engine number as a 6 cylinder and as mentioned gold in colour. The diff under the back is a 10 bolt which should be associated to a V8 car (I think)

You could option a Salisbury as a heavy duty diff behind all HQ 6cyl (except cab-chassis where Salisbury was standard). But it is a pretty rare option. There were probably more HQ V8 coupes made than 6cyl so more than likely a 253 car. But without tags it is academic anyway, makes no difference what it was originally.

So, would it be safe to say the state a rolling shell is in without tags is it is pretty useless and cannot be registered?

You can register it, just need a chassis number which could be anything from AHQ to EWB prefix as the number is on the rails. But without tags it’s value as a car will suffer badly so probably not worth restoring as even a replica. Best thing for it is as a modified with non standard stuff like big block, 9” etc.
But before you even think about buying it check all its stainless is with it as a full set of stainless for a HQ-HX coupe will set you back over $5000 or more. Doors cost a fortune too, as do regulators and rear screen. If any of that is missing it may not be worth even starting.

Wise words there HK1837. Thanks heaps for your advice. I'll see what comes with the shell in the way of parts but I'm tending towards giving it the flick!
