Hi Guys.

Just to put this year's 50th anniversary of the Monaro into perspective, today (6th May) is the 60th anniversary of release of the FC, arguably GM-H's most successful model series ever.

When I say successful, the FC held 50% share of the market in 1959, something not achieved before or since.

If at first you don't succeed, just call it Version 1.0

I have owned, fixed up a bit, wrecked for parts and played 'chicken' with numerous FE's and FC's back in the early '70's. And used them as a daily driver until the early 90's. As they held more than 50% of the new car market in the late 50's, by the early 70's you couldn't give them away. Sydney Motor Auctions in Carter Street Lidcombe which is now part of Suttons Parts Distribution Warehouse site is where my mates and I bought them for $2 on Saturday mornings when they had what was called the $499 Club. The maximum price in the morning auction was $499 and there were so many FE's and FC's that many were sold for just $2! Running or not. If they didn't start they were pushed through with an EJ with several tyres draped across the front of it. I know because we bought heaps of them. I caught up with a mate from the 70's in the mid 90's. I hadn't seen him in 20 years and he pulled out an old photo album. In the back were all the receipts from the FE's and FC's he had purchased at the auction. I 'borrowed' it and took it into work the next day as my work mates wouldn't believe what we paid back then. There was one receipt for $4 and one remark was that we got ripped off as we paid double for it! Long live the FE and FC Holden!
