Looking for paint code for Holden HQ suede black and clarification to the medium gloss used for exterior sills grill etc (Sandman) is this the same medium gloss for interior black components dash, glove box steering column etc, i found a post on the Torana site with a GMH document stating a low gloss black was used for steering column , indicator stalk and medium gloss for glove box etc would this be correct for HQ as well seems strange they would use two different blacks for interior excluding the suede black, and 4 different blacks if the exterior medium gloss is different again, would prefer updated codes to please if anyone has them thanks in advance

Black suede is 593-6912 and in 1971 it became 563-06912 and about 1973 it became 563-016912, I think its all the same stuff though.
The paint codes wont mean anything to anyone.
The textured suede was only used on the upper dash area (up by the windscreen) and along the A-pillar covers on HQ's and A-Pillars on HKTG and probably Toranas as well.
I dont think Adelaide cars ever had the textured finish, Dandenong did and Im not sure about the other GMH plants.
They all should have had it though.

HQ had medium gloss black 578-04149 in those areas.
I dont know about the wheel rims I think they were a different black.

The blacks I have on HQ Sandman are:

Plenum chamber, dash panel and front body pillar outer panel - 599-00364 (GMH S228).

Front fenders (underside), wheelhouse assembly (underside), front end frame complete and radiator support - BLACK (GMH S113) - I think this is slops/slush black.

Rocker panels, front fender (lower & louvres), body side (lower), rear end panel (beaver), front end panel lower - 578-4149 (GMHS263). This is the black interior paint as Wayne has posted above.

Note these are the ASSEMBLY LINE paints, the codes in what Wayne has put up are for RE-FINISH. Different things if the paint in question is to be baked, thus the re-finish codes are all air dry.

HQ wheel black is 222-10687, it is enamel IIRC.

So are you both saying other than the black suede HQ interior black was just the medium gloss 04149 ?? Why did the Toranas in the same year of manufacturing get low gloss on steering column and indicator stalk

578-4149 is the air dried interior and also for exterior paint applied after the baking process.

Black suede appears to be the refinish paint for 599-00364. It would appear that 599-00364 is what was applied in the body plant thus would be heat cured, whereas the RE-FINISH 563-6912 would be air cured.

Where are you reading that Torana used low gloss on steering column and indicator stalk? The documents I have for LJ show those the same as HQ for refinish ie 578-4149 Dulon medium gloss. In fact the Torana has no mention of suede at all, whereas HQ does.

Sorry i send above on my phone and thats not what i meant to write, what i meant to write was the medium gloss 04149 for exterior and interior the one and the same which Byron has answered above one was air dried so that maybe the difference, I cant locate that reference now I'm sure it was on the Torana forum, i also read the ashtray was painted suede but that may have been on the LC

The Engineering paint specifications say 578-5149 for Sandman blackouts so that is good enough for me! I think it is also used on HQ GTS sedan on the pillar between the doors and is possibly what was used on A9X bonnet.
