Maybe an extention of the earlier Myths Question.

How many Holdens ( or Holden Badged ) were genuinely released and badged by Holden as a Series 2 or Type 2 or Ph 2. etc ? or how many just adopted # 1 2 3 4 .. or Letters for that matter A B C D i.e. 48-215 to FX etc.?

Afaik there was never a type 2 GTS327, only a type 1 and type 2 engine used, and as you say the "type 1" wasn't referred to as such until the use of the Canadian 327 AND all the associated production bits (the reason I use the AND is the Canadian engine start point is significantly earlier than GMH's published PSN breakpoints). As far as I am aware the "type" has no reflection on the car, ONLY the engine. The HK GTS got any 1969 updates just like the GTS327 did (additional colours etc) but there was no "type 2" in those.

As to how many SeriesII, this will be a question for Dr Terry, Warren and Commodorenut combined I think. The only ones I can think of in my area of interest are V2II and V2III.

Also is my memory correct regarding a "SandpiperII"?

The cars that immediately come to mind are:-

WB Series II
VQ Series II
VP Series II
VR Series II
VS Series II
VS Series III
VT Series II
VX series II
VU Series II
WH Series II
VY Series II
VE Series II
VF Series II

A few points on the above list.

AFAIK Series II & III versions of V2 weren't badged as such. Did Holden ever call them Series II or III ? All I can find is reference to MY2003 & MY2004.

VQ Series II was effectively a whole new series, it being the LWB version of the VP.

VN had no 'Series II', but did have a mid-model upgrade which GM-H referred to as option number XX8.

VZ had the MY2006 upgrade, but again no mention of Series 2.

There were also things like Vacationer II & Sandpiper II, but these aren't really a Series are they ?

Also GM-H promoted the VC at release as "Commodore II".

The VC/VH 1.9 4-cyl was called the Phase II GM-H 4-cyl, with no mention of the word "Starfire".

My pet hates are HK GTS 327 Series 2 & VL Commodore Series 2, WTF ?

Good question on V2 Terry. I'll check my sales brochures for V2II and V2III. I thought those were proper titles though, although there is no badging as such. Redbook refers to them as V2 SeriesII and SeriesIII whereas other models have MY at appropriate places. Does anyone have a V2II or III coupe and can look on the Compliance plate and the Owner's Manual and see what they say? I only have stuff from a V2 and a VZ.

Yeah, that's a good point. The V2 upgrades were in line with VX intro (V2 Series II) & the VX Series II (V2 Series III). The WH & VU were also upgraded at the same time & both of these received Series II badges, so why not the V2 Monaro ?

Yes, you are correct. I had brain fade with that one.

V2 = VX II
V2 Series II= VY I
v2 Series III = VY II

FJ series 2 ute haha got the improved FC engine higher compression 7.0:1 over the other FJ's 6.8:1 and torque up higher 1400RPM vs 1200RPM, now that could of been bragging rights back in the day down the pub.

How much was changed in S2 WB Statesman? Slight trim and dash changes.
It was only Statesman as well. I know late WB commercial got some minor trim colour updates.

Series II WB added electric mirrors, trip computer, digital display radio etc. along with many changes to trim & badges.

The Series II WB upgrade only applied to Statesman Deville & Statesman Caprice, but the commercials did get some minor trim colour changes around that same time. From memory, Oyster & Light Oyster interior trim, was added. The commercial didn't get much else.

Yeah my 84 WB ute has the oyster trim.
I can't really see why they called the Statesman a series 2. Mostly marketing I guess. Stimulate sales. They really didn't change anything did they.
The Deville hubcaps changed too.

Later WB commercials had anodised headlight trims rather than chrome and some had VK headrests. I think the buckskin (and possibly blue) trim colour was dropped too.

I haven't seen anodised surrounds? It wouldn't have worked real well. Anodising is easily scratched.

It was mainly a marketing ploy, but plenty of things were changed for WB Series 2. Enough for a workshop manual supplement anyway.

As I mentioned in my post (#10) above, badges were changed, interior trim was changed, & equipment added to & altered. Arguably a bigger upgrade than 1973 HQ.

Yeah Castellan it is. 4.2,4 speed, GTS dash. It's got the correct big Salisbury diff. It's 4/84. Bench seat is the only let down. I have converted it to buckets and correct console with WB lid and WB ute specific seat belt stalks. I haven't got a proper set of WB seats yet. So I guess I will start a myth, it's a series 2, WB ute......

wbute, if your after a set of wb buckets I've got a set in the farm ute if your interested. they came out of my old HX four door ute that was upgraded to wb caprice front and interior. yes it was a four door ute and was registered as a five seater ute with hx statesman compliance plates. a bugger of a thing to park in high rise parking joints being a tad under 6m long. the seats are in my 720 Nissan because their better than what was there.

Are they ute or Statesman seats? Statesman had the height adjustment on the drivers side.

height adjustment? they sit on runners for the lower and have the adjusting "lay back" for the upper part and the head rest is formed as one. if I could work out how to post a picture I would.
