I assume we are talking about ignition coils here ? If so, what type of 6-cyl coil & what V8. I sell ignition coils to the trade & currently catalogue over 520 different types, not counting different branding, so it does matter.

It is a 1970 Lucas coil 8C12 stamped on it but has a 6 cylinder part number on it. The 8C12 also was used on V8's but has a different part number. What will happen Dr Terry if I use the wrong one on a V8(350)?Can you modify the coil to suit ?

Those two ignition coils are very similar. Their primary resistance is virtually the same & are both designed to work with the factory Holden ballast (in the wiring harness) & a good old fashioned points distributor.

The modern Bosch equivalent is the SU12R which they list to fit all Holden, Falcons & Valiants, both 6 & V8, of that era.
