Hi everyone, just drained the old TH400 From a HZ Stato..and installed new seals and sump gasket.... now i need to refill it with tranny oil.. question is how much fluid does this box hold... it has a 12 inch standard converter.. i have tried the internet for figures and came up with 6 quarts for the box and 4 quarts for the stall... i think its about 10 litres... can someone please verify this for me ( i emptied the converter and box and got about 5 liters maximum out..does it retain any oil, ?.. by the way , the fluid was crystal clear when removed, i bought it of a mate who bought it of a mate..so i changed the filter and had a little inspection, hence the oill change.. Thanks in advance , and what type of tranny fluid will suit this box? Dexron 111 ? Cheers , Anthony

They hold about 10.4 litres totally empty, and about 4L after a pan removal. The converter retains plenty of oil. Dexron III is the go, but if its a fully rebuilt box or you can get it flushed (powerflush) after its in and running Id use Valvol |

Just pore the stuff in till it comes out the top.. Nahh just kidding I say about 10litres .. expensive ouch..Will depend a little on the size of your oil cooler and convertor. I wish I had done what byron said with the seals etc. Will see how it goes for |

Tanks mate, about $60 for 10 litres.... any idea what it may cost to get the internal seals replaced by an auto specialist? Or if its a no brainer , do you think i could have a crack at it ? Also, any tips on how to remove that tiny little selector seal

I just take them to a transmission shop when they are out. Costs about $75 for the service without fluid. Theyll replace the rubbers whilst there.
