This type of paint code was used for one off colours.

You will need the book from the Holden Styling department at the time your car was produced. (As you can imagine that book would no longer exist)

So unfortunately you will not be able to find it.

It is a experimental paint code, used by the styling dept. all that I can tell is it was a Metallic, they come up from time to time but no one has found any info on what the colours were or if they were given names.

I have found 3 of these paint codes that are similar 1453-2-1A, 1453-133-1C, 1453-145-1A the last one is from the LE Prototype and an earlier HQ 1155-91-2A

Link with pic here www.gmh-torana.com.au/fo...ial-trim-code-on-id-tag/ for the car in question

Thanks for the info guys. It's much appreciated

Im not really sure what to do now, I'm in the process of re spraying this car, I was going to change it to the R8 Audi Brilliant Red, but not sure if I should just re spray it the same colour now. Hmm big decisions.

Daniel

Can you send me details of the car? The paint line code will most likely be a variation of one of the colours used on an upcoming series (like HZ or VB) if yours is HX. There will have been a few painted in similar shades.

I have just come back from the pannel shop and they have matched the colour to firethorn red. Can anyone shed some light on this colour and what it was used for. I have heard its from a VB commodore, was it also used on the Hq - Wb as well, Thanks

Firethorn was introduced to Holden, Commodore, Torana, Sunbird and Gemini on colour chart A632. However it isn't metallic. It is a re-used older colour from HT era called Spanish Red and kept the colour code of 1189 (Dulon code 10981) from that time. In HT I believe it was also a re-hash of an old EH or something from that era colour. It is possible that something like Cortez Red metallic from the same timeframe is a metallic version of Firethorn and this paint you have is a styling exercise colour for it. There will most likely have been 3 cars painted in slightly different shades of the same colour, yours being 2A. My guess is the others were 2B and 2C but that is speculation at this stage.

I came across a HX Premier for sale on Gumtree with an unusual code. After reading post it appears this car was another variation of Firethorn Red.
