Anyone know this car ?
Is it a genuine ?
I don't know anything about A9X but is there such a thing as a GMP&A (light weight race shell).
Very Interesting and I would think worth a fortune assuming its a verifiable car.

am very aware of these, was working at GMH Dandenong when A9X was made.
Apart from counting how many were sent out to Bill Patterson (and returned Applause )
a bloke at GMH (called Joe Felice I think it was) asked that some ummm .... arrrh spare
Torana body in white shells be made .

These got some special treatment on the production line.. extra welding, sound deadener
deleted plus body panels reinforced in certain places plus extra blind nuts welded on.

Many more than would be normally needed (as genuine GMP&A items) were made via this method
and the ummm... excess somehow ended up with Holden racing teams. If you get my drift.. Dancing

I don’t think he’s talking about the GMP&A race cars Smitty, but the few lighter shells made. From memory there were two for Bob Forbes for a Lemans stint but were never used. One of these was put back though the Dandenong plant and modified into A9X spec for Bob Jane, it was later rebodied using an ex HDT GMP&A shell and came 5th at Bathurst in 1979. There were a couple of others made during the GMP&A race car build.

I just read the ad, not a lightweight car. Just a GMP&A race car. Not an A9X but what was raced using prior LH and later homologations. That engine number is not a GMH engine plant stamp Smitty.

So does this mean its just some hobbled together V8 Torana and not really special as an original Car ?

that car has the right info.. to be def an A9X

ONLY vehicle Holden made with MC7 trans.. for starters and G70 diff? the 2.6 ratio was also only available on A9X Toranas back then
(and later made available on VB 8VX69 with 308 packs... as an option. I had one of those as a GMH company car)

Not an A9X built for homologation and not sold to be road registered. It will not appear in the IBM360 A9X report published in the Eric Blair book, and not counted in A9X totals. It is a purpose built race car, one of the cars built to be raced as an A9X, but in reality no different to an LH L34 sedan upgraded to A9X homologation which also could be fitted with 2.6 Salisbury and MC7 transmission. Not complianced and no PSN but due to the nature of how LX were built it would have a chassis number.

2.6 Salisbury started to become standard or optional in HX. Initially in Statesman but by the end of HX fully replaced 2.78 Salisbury. I have the timeframe here somewhere, may even have the Engineering Change Notice. It replaced 2.78 due to gear noise from memory.

It was a Bill Patterson Team spare shell and never raced in period. There is a thick binder of information with the car which varifies its history.

MC7 code was also used for the Muncie trans in HQ 350. I realise it's a different gearbox but they are related.

I also don’t think any production A9X were made with option MC7, it was an optional transmission included solely for homologation, just like the optional 3.36, 3.55 and 3.90 rear axles. The equal first A9X hatchback that was displayed at the Sandown Hang Ten in 1977 had a T10 fitted but it wasn’t fitted in the Assembly plant as it has M21 on its body plate.

As Dr Terry says, MC7 was standard on HQ GTS350 coupe and on HQ V8 Kingswood sedan when option XW8 was applied. Also standard on HQ V8 Monaro and HQ V8 Kingswood sedan when engine L30 optioned, although not easily done as I think there was only one of each of these.
