Seton
turns back time in Capri
AT Queensland's Morgan Park
Raceway last week, Ford Performance Racing (FPR) driver Glenn Seton
went back to where it all started when he took the opportunity to get
back behind the wheel of the Ford that started his meteoric blue oval
motor racing career.
 Seton
drove his father Bo Seton's fully restored 1971 Ford Capri at Morgan
Park, a car meticulously prepared for Group NC historic racing by Bill
Attard. Bo's handiwork can be found under the bonnet within the car's
three litre V6 engine.
While this was not the actual Ford Capri raced by Seton twenty years
ago, it is as exact as you could get to it, right down to the four
speed gearbox, radial tyres, engine specifications and drivetrain. For
Seton it was a nostalgic return to what it was like when he first
gained his touring car racing licence in 1982.
 "What
a great day! Getting behind the wheel of my father's Capri was a
fantastic experience, it brought back many fond memories for me.
Morgan Park is an excellent club circuit that I had never been to
before and it really suited this car, given that it has a third
of the power that I am used to with my Ford Credit FPR Falcon,"
he said.
"The hardest thing to get used to was the slow reacting four
speed gearbox compared to our current fast changing boxes - but other
than that, for a car with radial tyres and suspension geometry dating
back to the early seventies, it drove remarkably well.
"Originally I was supposed to do a few laps to help set up the
car, but I was enjoying it so much that I ended up doing 50 laps and
finding one and a half seconds in set up changes during the day.
"My father has a great car to go racing with and I hope to one
day make a historic racing appearance in it myself, but only in a
guest role of course - there's still plenty of V8 Supercar racing left
in me!"
Glenn Seton is the most successful Ford V8 Supercar driver in the
history of the sport with 35 victories, 51 podium finishes and two
Championship titles to his credit.
The 38 year old Ford Credit FPR Falcon driver is heading to a landmark
20th Bathurst start this October, partnering his triple Champion FPR
team mate Craig Lowndes in one of Ford's most formidable driving
partnerships ever seen at Mount Panorama.
